SAR
Ratings
SAR is the measure
of electromagnetic radiation a mobile telephone emits.
It refers
to the specific rate of electromagnetic radiation absorption.
There
is
a European and USA standard, in both cases the lower the value
the
better. You can only compare the relative radiation of different mobile
phones by using the same standard of measurement.

North
American Standard:
The
SAR limit for mobile phones used by the public is 1.6 watts/kilogram
(W/kg) averaged over one gram of body tissue.
European
Standard:
The SAR limit for mobile phones used by the public is 2.0
watts/kilogram(W/kg) averaged over ten grams of body tissue.
Whilst there is no conclusive evidence that mobile phones currently cause permanent
damage to human tissue, if you wish to minimize the effects
the following
suggestions might be useful:
- • Select
a phone with the lowest SAR value, these values can be
found on the web – visit www. sarshield.com
• Other than a big block of lead next to your head the RF will not be reduced
to any significant degree by SAR shields sold at you local pharmacy, so do not
waste your money.
• A Bluetooth headset under normally circumstances emits only 10% of
the power of the average phone as it is a short range low power device, so perhaps
consider this low level threat.
• Using a car kit while driving is both safe for driving and good practice
but also negates having to put the phone against your head.
• Take you phone into a Vodacare once a year or if you suspect a frequency
recalibration problem. Have the phone checked for frequency drift. This might
cause your phone to fall out of specification and result in higher RF levels.
If you are dropping calls this could be a sign.
• Use a portable handsfree cable, most phones today come with a MP3
player and a free Stereo cable in the box, if not buy one at a Cellucity store
they are not expensive.
It is also sensible to be cautious
and keep phones away from children,
if they need to make calls
try and limit this exposure and encourage them
to use sms rather,
it won’t be too difficult.
